...and lean not unto thine own understanding... (written on 9/4/2014)

September 4th is an important date for me.  It's the halfway point in my year.  Six months from my last birthday; six months 'til my next birthday.  My next birthday is another milestone year.  Forty.  Wow... forty.  I like to take the fourth of September and look at how my life has gone in the past six months, and consider how it looks to be going for the next six months.  Some September 4th's are better than others.  Today is a little more intense than in years past.  On the surface, some may think since the so-called big Four-Oh is up next, that today may ring in an existential crisis or something else ridiculous.  I'm not worried so much about turning forty, but I am worried about the way some endeavors in the past six months have gone. Leaping Lizards!

I have a feeling that today will be a very strange day. It's leap year 2012! Last night, my friend Camree had a baby girl. We were so hoping for a leap year baby, but got a happy healthy little pink girl an hour or so early. Hooray! This morning I stopped at 7-11 before getting to work. I went in for a string cheese and a Sprite Zero, but came out with 2 cheeses, the Sprite Zero, and a Boston Cream donut. Sigh. Anyway, on my way in, a gentleman winked and smiled at me. For real. A wink. What year is it? Who does that? I know who. He is the same gentleman who, about this same time last year, allowed me to go ahead of him in line at the same 7-11 and said "just one of the privilidges of being a beautiful woman." Thank you sir for the compliments. I'll admit it: they're nice. But dude, a wink? Really? Okay, so maybe it won't be the weirdest day ever. I am looking forward to the rest of it though.
