Priesthood Responsibility

My husband's most recent sacrament meeting talk. Cape Henry Ward ~ 8/26/2012   Good morning Brothers and Sisters, For those of you that I haven’t met, my name is Dan White and I’ve been a member of the church for about a year and half…   I was baptized last January.   And I wanted to start off saying that because the topic of my talk today is the priesthood. Specifically, talks by President Uchtdorf and Elder Bednar that were given during the Priesthood session of last April’s general conference.   Both talks are about priesthood service, but it certainly applies to all service within the church.   And in a nutshell, they are talks basically urging us to do what Heavenly Father is asking us to do. And as odd as it may sound, the priesthood is something that not just stood out to me, but it was as obvious as a bright light when I was investigating the church.   So, to back up a little bit, I could count on one hand the number of...

Family Trees

Family trees are pretty darn cool.  It's really cool when you help put them together.  But they're even extra cool when they lead you to groovy discoveries about who your ancestors really are.  A few months ago I discovered that my ancestors were nobles & royalty.  Not too shabby.  I've known for a very long time that my American ancestors were here before there was ever a federal union.  But it wasn't until this past week that I realized I had true Native American ancestors.  I find it's especially cool to Google the name of an ancestor and come up with a LOT of info... even if a lot of that info is on Wikipedia.  Chief Powhatan, King Edward I,  and Clovis , are just a few names in my direct line of ancestors.  What I find particularly fun about this is that since I do love history, I was already quite familiar with their stories.  Well, at least I'm familiar with the st...

Leaping Lizards!

I have a feeling that today will be a very strange day. It's leap year 2012! Last night, my friend Camree had a baby girl. We were so hoping for a leap year baby, but got a happy healthy little pink girl an hour or so early. Hooray! This morning I stopped at 7-11 before getting to work. I went in for a string cheese and a Sprite Zero, but came out with 2 cheeses, the Sprite Zero, and a Boston Cream donut. Sigh. Anyway, on my way in, a gentleman winked and smiled at me. For real. A wink. What year is it? Who does that? I know who. He is the same gentleman who, about this same time last year, allowed me to go ahead of him in line at the same 7-11 and said "just one of the privilidges of being a beautiful woman." Thank you sir for the compliments. I'll admit it: they're nice. But dude, a wink? Really? Okay, so maybe it won't be the weirdest day ever. I am looking forward to the rest of it though. I am only just starting to look forward to ...

What a Great Example :-)

I need to lose weight.  I want to lose weight.  I am going to lose weight.  Sooner rather than later, please. I'm 36 years old.  I've been saying this on my very own for almost twenty years now.  I've been told this for more than thirty years.  You'd think I'd get it under control one of these days soon.  Well, clearly I have not.  I've had some moments of success.  I once lost 50 pounds all on my own.  I faithfully followed the South Beach Diet and did quite well.  I moved across the country to be closest to the one I love, marry him, and all that, and that was the end of the weight loss success that was most recently known.  Sigh. I'm in a funk.  I like exercise...sorta.  I LOVE food though.  I love easy food.  I love sugary food.  I love bright springy food.  I love fattening food.  I love healthy food.  I freakin' love food.  I love lots of it.  I love it often....
